Philly Front Office - Blue Coats

Delaware Blue Coats Fieldhouse Opening

The Delaware Blue Coats hosted the Memphis Hustle in a Tuesday night contest. After a back and forth game, the Memphis Hustle won 110-106.

Entering the brand new building was an exciting experience for anyone in attendance. The arena still smelled new, and there was a very positive atmosphere surrounding the game.

The game actually started off slow, with the Memphis Hustle looking to make a statement. They ended up taking a 14-7 lead early on.

That was until Jared Brownridge checked in. Brownridge proved to be a spark off the bench, and immediately began a flurry of scoring. After the first quarter, the Hustle only lead by three points.

The second quarter strictly belonged to the Blue Coats, as multiple players scored. Ranging from Shake Milton’s dunks to Haywood Highsmith’s spin moves, the Blue Coats couldn’t be stopped. They lead 60-50 going into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Blue Coats extended their run, and even lead by 15 at one point. Cameron Oliver began what would be an energetic second half, but the Hustle would not go away quietly. The team again trimmed the lead back down to 11 and started gaining momentum.

The fourth quarter would be a back and forth contest. The fans got their money’s worth as the teams battled back and forth. Plays like this made the fanbase cheer for their new team:

The game looked like it would go into overtime until the refs made a questionable call on Cameron Oliver for an offensive foul. To say the least, the fans didn’t agree:

Shake Milton eventually fouled out, and before you knew it the game was out of reach for the Blue Coats.

While it didn’t have the perfect outcome, there was a ton of positive takeaways from the game. This game symbolized a new era for the ball club and showed commitment to the city of Wilmington.

The team will go forward with their brand new arena and staff, and try to grow their successful program revolving around player development.

The Blue Coats will play again in Wilmington on Saturday, January 26 in a contest against the Greensboro Swarm.
