Week 9 NFL Best Bets

Week eight wasn’t as good to us as week seven but we mitigated our losses by starting the week with a 3-star win on Thursday night. We dropped 0.91 units, bringing our total for the year to 14.67 units. Remember, a unit is what your single bet would be, so if you bet $10 a unit, you would be up $146.70 on the year. Our top play on the Texans Thursday night hit easily; however, we dropped both two-star plays as the Giants stayed the horrendous team that they are and the Ravens got handled by the Panthers.

As I have wrote about before, we have already discussed some key terms and looked at some season win total bets as well. Every week for the entire season I will be listing my best bets for the week, as well as picks and advice for survivor pools and pick ‘em leagues.

Year-To-Date Results
3-Stars: 7-3 (+10.11 units)
2-Stars: 10-7-2 (+4.56units)
Total: +14.67 Units for a weighted win percentage of 64.06%

Without further ado, here are the picks:

Top Play (3-Star)
Lions +4.5
The Lions did not look good last week against the Seahawks and go into this week without Golden Tate (after his trade to the Eagles). They are on the road and facing a good Minnesota team. So why are we backing the Lions? Usually when you ask the question “who would bet on them?” it’s usually a good sign to bet on them. There is no reason for the Lions to only be getting 4.5 points here. Vegas made this line 5.5 only to see it drop to 4.5 despite the Lions only receiving 27% of the ticket bets. That’s reverse line movement at it’s finest. Back the Lions and follow the sharps here.

Solid Plays (2-Stars)
Chargers +2
Chargers are coming off of a bye week and get to face a Seahawks team that still is trying to find its identity. I think the Chargers have underperformed so far this year and will use the bye week to make a push for the Wild Card. I expect Melvin Gordon to have a great game and for the Chargers to pull the upset here.

Steelers +3
The age-old adage here is to always take the team getting the points in this series. Baltimore and Pittsburgh are one of the last true rivalries in the NFL and this should be a close, back-and-forth game. I think the Steelers are starting to find their stride while the Ravens seem to be heading in the opposite direction. Take the three points here on the better team.

Survivor Pool Plays
Our safe plays went 3-0 last week but the risky play on the Giants didn’t pan out.
Safe Plays – Kansas City
Risky Plays – Lions, Broncos
Stay Away – Bears over Bills and Panthers over Buccs

Pick ‘Em Plays (no spread)
Another 11-3 week should have seen you make some money in your pick ‘em league last week. Let’s repeat.
Raiders, Lions, Chiefs, Steelers, Buccs, Jets, Falcons, Bears, Broncos, Chargers, Saints, Patriots, Cowboys

Eagles Play
Bye Week
