One week into the playoffs and we crushed it here on Money Makers. We won all of our plays and bumped our win total by 6.37 units up to 21.80 units ($218.00) on the season. Our 3-star play on the Eagles +7 hit easily as they won the game outright. We were lucky to cash in on the Seahawks garbage TD (that’s why buying points is worthwhile) and the Colts steamrolled the Texans as Andrew Luck stayed red-hot.
3-Stars: 12-7 (+11.76 units)
2-Stars: 22-15-2 (+10.04 Units)
Total: +21.80 Units for a weighted win percentage of 61.07%
Top Play (3-Star)
6.5 Point Teaser of Colts +12 with Eagles +14.5
This teaser might be one of my favorite plays of the year. I like both of these teams to win outright and therefore getting double digit points on each of them is a no-brainer. The Colts looked really good vs the Texans and Andrew Luck is really starting to show the talent everyone knew he had (look what a good offensive line can do). Add into the mix that Andy Reid is managing the clock for the other team and Colts look like a really solid play this week. On the other side, the Eagles escaped Chicago with a 1-point double doink of a win, but they outplayed the Bears pretty handily. Now they go down to New Orleans which is no easy task; however, getting more than two touchdowns on the defending Super Bowl champs hitting their stride is a solid play.
I like the Eagles to actually win this game, so I’m keeping them here as a top play along with the teaser above. However, I would only bet the Eagles straight if the Colts don’t cover and lose our teaser. No need to double dip.
Solid Plays (2-Star)
The Chargers played really well vs the vaunted Ravens defense but allowed the Ravens to force a scare at the end of the game. The Chargers flew back to LA after the game, just to fly back to the East Coast for this game. That’s a lot of travel. It will also be 26 degrees in Foxboro this weekend and that doesn’t bode well for the Cali kids. The Patriots are well rested and well, they’re the Patriots. They have won 10 of their last 11 playoff games coming off a bye in the Divisional Round, including winning 7 straight. They also have covered six of their last seven games under the same conditions. I like the Patriots to win this game by around a touchdown.
Playoff Parlay (1-Star)
Parlay the Patriots moneyline (-205) with the Colts moneyline (+190) for close to 3:1 payout.
Survivor Pool Plays
Our safe play hit on the Eagles and we split our risky plays. We also avoided the Ravens upset.
Safe Plays – Patriots
Risky Plays – Eagles and Colts
Stay Away – Rams over Cowboys
Pick ‘Em Plays (no spread)
We went 2-2 last week.
Colts, Rams, Patriots, Eagles
What a game. The Eagles played a sound defensive game (until the end, go figure), and left Chicago with another playoff underdog win. Now they face the daunting task of playing the Saints in New Orleans. I expect Nick Foles to play a much sounder game vs a defense that isn’t near the Bears in terms of pressure. While the Saints offense is much better built to take advantage of the Eagles defense, I think the defensive line will force Brees to make some mistakes. Much has been said of the Saints dynamic offense, but in the five games leading up to the playoffs they are only averaging 19 points a game. I think the Eagles defense can get some stops (and hopefully hold onto some turnovers). Also, only one time in NFL history has a team lost by 40 or more points in the regular season to then face that same team in the playoffs. That team was the Jets, and they beat the Patriots outright as 9.5-point dogs. I think the Eagles make that trend 2-0. Eagles 27-24.
